The villain closed in the hero, finally getting them cornered, and in precisely the correct position to use as leverage. There was nowhere else to go.
“Wait,” the hero croaked.
The villain, for some reason, waited, though internally reprimanding themselves. This is how all villains are defeated, at some point or another. They waited for the hero to speak again.
“I dare you to walk away.”
The villain was not expecting that. Is that what the hero thought would get them out of there?
“You... dare me?” they asked before they could stop themselves, still holding up their pride and dignity like the light of a laser pointer above a cat.
The hero doubled over coughing and hacking, a spray of blood coating their hand. “I–” the hero wheezed, clutching their chest– “double dog dare you.”
The villain froze, which is different from waiting, as it is not according to the will of the user. How did the hero know about Doubledog?
