Okie dokie I feel very 2011 out here placing an authorās note above the story but! Thank you very much to @gingerly-writing for Prompt #1613, which officially gets to break me from my writing slump! Without further ado, enjoy some angst between two characters, Rani and Amber, from an upcoming project @writerofwriting and I have been cooking up behind the scenes!
Rani Shivakumar, admittedly, felt a bit of horror as she approached the room, the yellow slip shining in hand as though it were a beacon to shame her for each and every misdeed she had committed in her life. While, certainly, she hadnāt found much problem robbing banks or causing general civil unrest in her previous line of work, that was, strictly speaking, a professional act. At school, she was meant to be a completely different person. She had always been relatively demure, an intellect, a good student, if a bit of an on-the-nose studious stereotype. She relished in no one knowing of her powers, and no one placing a judgement on her character.
But now everything was moving so, so fast.
She had never wanted to transfer to this school, to be thrown the uncomfortable challenge of being judged by newfound peers at all hours of the dayāfirst at SPART-A headquarters, forced to pretend herself a hero and silently nurse her heartbreak in the dark of night, and then at this new school, where a good quarter of the staff regarded her with weary suspicion. Because of course a government agency hiring teenagers to do their police work for them also wove those same heroes throughout the teaching and administrative staff. She could only imagine what Coldsnap might have said if he found out.
Of course, she wasnāt supposed to focus on him. Bastard. She had a reputation to focus on. A reputation which was already slipping from her grasp. Rani took in a quick breath and opened the door.
@note-kathaās Riore, the valiant, fearless vessel for the The Chosen Oneā¢. If only she could remember where her memories begin and the chosen oneās end...
We were talking about the states and this happened.
Iām tagging the dorks that inspired me to draw this.

I made one of these because I Wanted to!! I used the template by @cogesque <3
when checking out all of my many many wips these are some trends I foundĀ
The Malformation AU: Part 7
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5 | Chapter 6Ā |
Iām having so much fun writing this AU, guys, itās just amazing - and thanks again, cause I really canāt say it enough, to @writerofwriting for letting me use their amazing character of the Malformation!
Chapter 7 (Anechoi/Eris):
The thing in her head is not VAL. It has stopped pretending to be VAL. But she knows of no other name for it, and so the entity of broken magic inside her head remains VAL.
And she truly thrives on chaos. Eris doesnāt know how, but she can feel it growing stronger as they approach the outpost. Fear breeds chaos, and everybody has had time to know she is coming. Everybody has had time to watch the shaky videos, to see the explosions that rent and tore at the station in Sapphire. She knows theyāre scared.
The few towers of Aquamarine rise over the icy hills, glowing a faint turquoise in the setting sun. This is the most isolated base on Mars, hidden deep in the south polar ice cap to mine water for the rest of the planet. Nobody wants to work here, so they are forced to, because the operations of this small station are vital.Ā
How cute, VAL says as the train pulls into the dilapidated station. Theyāve sent out a greeting party. And indeed they have, though āmilitiaā is probably more of an accurate description. Half a dozen people in spacesuits, unrecognizable beneath the mirrored visors and bulky fabric. Environmental suits can barely stand up to the cold here, though Eris herself is unaffected. Shall we see what theyāre saying?
*slides into your inbox* hello there! I'm getting very out of the loop on projects! What's currently your main(s) wips? And what about the characters??
I wrote this last night with a lot of coffee in my body so I was able to give a somewhat comprehensive answer for once in my life!
My main WIP right now is a second draft of the novelĀ Give My Love to the Ocean (itās getting a new title soon, probably). Itās a contemporary/literary novel with elements of legal thrillers and dark romance incorporated, in which professional idiot and sometimes criminal defense lawyer León San Andres has a passionate affair with Vicente Rivera, a corporate executive for an international boat manufacturing company--only to discover that Vicente is also the heir to an international crime syndicate, the Hagonoy Cartel. From there his relationship with Vicente escalates and León becomes the cartelās main defense lawyer in the States, where ultraviolent turf wars have broken out along the west coast. León struggles with anxiety and his own traumas, but heās also a sassy, ambitious, self-destructive moron who likes cheap beer, tequila, quiet nights in, and literally any event that involves free food. Vicente is... painfully confident, and painfully intense. Heās got an insane amount of drive, terrible insomnia, and only drinks expensive wine. Other characters include Seven, Vicenteās childhood best friend and right-hand man (charismatic, extroverted, a romantic, a Fool); Ana, Leónās best friend and fiancee [itās... a marriage of convenience thing] (PsychD student, wine connoisseur, confident, heart of gold); Violeta, Sevenās fiancee (ex-yakuza, aloof, intelligent); and Benjie, one of Leónās clients and a distributor for the Hagonoy Cartel (young, terrified, weasel-like).
Iām also working on a novella, Layers of Hell, which is a cyberpunk retelling of Hades & Persephone. In a future where the pantheon of Old Gods abandoned the world during the War, the survivors of the War live in city-towers over what was once the city of Seattle. Persephone lives in the city-tower of Demeter, working through deep simulations to research ways to develop agriculture in the destroyed world. Hades is a Venter, a rare and secretive class permitted to move between city-towers, maintaining the ventilation systems that filter out the radioactive air from Outside. Their relationship, an illicit thing on its own, gives way to even more illegal things--like figuring out that what theyāve each been told about the Outside doesnāt line up, and neither of them knows the truth.
And lastly Iām working on a contemporary fantasy project,Ā Graycrest Memorial Park, which is a loosely connected series of short stories about Annihila, a witch and the graveyard keeper of Graycrest Memorial Park. In a reality where ghosts regularly wander back into the world of the living, Annihila has her hands full with organizing the dead and their games of tarot poker... and the oldest ghosts that suggest she isnāt fully human... and disposing of the bodies the Mafia brings her... and beating back the terrible, hungry thing that lives in the woods behind the graveyard. Annihila is independent and sometimes seems aloof, but she cares deeply. The only other major character so far is Elias, the love interest, who died when he was 19 in a military training accident [he was an Army soldier]. Elias is a soft guy--the youngest of four siblings, a bundle of anxiety, a gentle soul, an absolute weapon at tarot poker.Ā
@honeybeewriter since you asked the other night and i couldnāt!! put things into proper words and managed to forget my own projects which isnāt a good sign
