I’m genuinely baffled by people who say TTPD is Taylor’s best work. Even disregarding the many controversies regarding songs like But Daddy I love Him, the lyrics just seem so… cheap? One of the things I love about her work is that she is able to convey so much meaning in so little words, but TTPD is full of long confusing metaphors that’s more reminiscent of someone who thinks beautiful writing always has to be dramatic and overwritten. Clearly Taylor Swift the Brand doesn’t care too much about her artistry anymore.
i'm definitely in the same about and truly cannot think anything of it outside of swifties and their severe recency bias. their favorite thing is the newest thing taylor did all the time. that paired with their obsession with needing to defend her everywhere with everything and not allowing anyone to criticize the album when it was met with palpable criticism from media outlets, reviews, the general public, etc. and also fell off the cultural zeitgeist pretty immediately after release kinda proves that it's not her best? at all?
but sadly swifties share the problematic trait with taylor of not caring about any of that, but rather only caring about numbers and equating popularity to success. everytime i see someone vaguely negative towards the album swifties go with the 'it's broken every record under the sun, it's literally the best album' 'it's been #1 for 9 weeks straight so it is the best album ever obviously' when those records weren't even earned organically, they were caught by using unethical marketing tricks by her and her 37(?) versions of the same 1 album. so the entire argument of it being the best is based on the success, then that success actually being manufactured by her first hand, really says something about how she views the quality of her art and how it very clearly means nothing more than a way to measure success.

I need people to remember that Eloise, despite being around 20 this season, does not know was sex is or how babies are made. In fact, this is actively being kept a secret from her, even by her best friend, because she is unmarried.

All she knows is that her little sister is getting examined against her will while grieving to check that she's pregnant, and that not even Benedict or Violet could protect her from it.
