Hi buddy! I'm sending another round of questions for Sunday Writeblr Ask-A-Thon! My question to you is: What comes to you to the easiest when you write - characters, settings, worldbuilding stuff, dialogue etc?
Hi!!
The absolute easiest? Characters. Hands down, they are the easiest. I do not invent characters, they make themselves. Most of the time they pop into my brain fully formed, named, backstory, showing off their personality, and with some idea of what they look like. There are times that they walk up and tell me who their FC is. For instance, when Anna showed up, she was like - "My face is Natalie Dormer. Try to make me look like anyone else, and I'll squeeze your brain. Oh, and you're going to love me." Those who were inspired by characters sometimes have their faces, sometimes not.
Because of this, dialogue is very easy as well. Since the characters are so fully formed from the instant they are "born" in my brain. I hear them in my head talking to me...arguing with me sometimes. So they do talk to each other. Their dialogue flows easily and organically at all times. I always read back over it and sometimes there is something that needs added or changed, but normally all that gets redone in a dialogue scene is the descriptions around it
Often the hardest thing for me is describing a scene so that the reader can envision a scene as I do without feeling like info dumping. I am a reader that loathes infodumping. I will either walk away from a book that does it, or start skipping forward. So, as a rule, I try to avoid it like leaches in a bog.
Thank you for asking <3
