following immediately from the previous sentence:
"There's a new breed of hipsters ripping at the seams of monogamy. They're not excessively earnest hippie free-lovers or old-school swingers or social misfits, they're, well. . . cool."
oh fuck this. i cannot verbalize how much i hate this "oh they're not polyamorous like those geeks, they're cool". (god, why is this reminding me so much of the "cigarette-smoking is cool" era.)
continued:
"Many of these folks don't label themselves as polyamorous or swingers, often preferring the term modern. They've updated monogamy to the twenty-first century and tweaked it to fit their own needs and desires. These trendsetters are cropping up in cities all over the nation, and they're leading us to an advanced civilization of romance, gleaming with possibility."
again with the fucking "cool kids" concept. (also trendsetters, jfc, this isn't the punk scene. it's just fucking.)
and oh my god, the "an advanced civilization". just. one: fuck the concept of an advanced vs. not civilization, and two: it's literally just how many people you fuck at once, or how many are in your to-fuck rotation. "gleaming with possibility" goddamn.
