WPLJ IS ENDING THIS IS NOT A DRILL AND THIS IS NOT OKAY THEY CAN’T DO THIS TO US
@megalong said: Omg I have genuinely listened to PLJ since I was a BABY like it is what my parents had on in the car what we listened to in my grade school carpools what I default to on the way to work most days now. I truly can’t believe it’s leaving!!!!
i am legitimately so sad about it! what started out as a once in a while roadtrip treat has, over the years, like you said, become a daily occurrence. they were around for almost half a century; how does something like that just disappear? today, they played ‘river of dreams’ right before ‘high hopes’ by panic @ the disco! WHERE ELSE WILL THAT EVER HAPPEN? i also find it super weird that it’s converting to a christian rock station, of all things? NEW YORK IS NOT THE BIBLE BELT. you should check and see if they still have shirts!
Rake Breaker (Jersey Girl)
Brewery : Jersey Girl Beer : Rake Breaker Style : IPA / India Pale Ale Variance : None
6.5 / 10
I believe it was Todd Pettengill who ruined this brewery’s name for me on 95.5 WPLJ because he decided it would be funny to make fun of the song “Barbie Girl” by Aqua and change it to “Jersey Girl” that basically pointed out everything I hate about my amazing state. Fuck you Todd. That song is currently playing in my head on repeat with every sip I take and I’m really considering running into a wall head first to make it stop. Anyways, now on to the beer. I’m almost positive that Rake Breaker is Jersey Girl’s first can release and honestly by the taste of things, you can tell. These guys haven’t really been around that long and I’ve been wanting to visit but since I’m lazy and it’s just about an hour or so away, I’m glad that my local bottle shop had a few 4 packs of this in stock to give me a taste of what’s to come. An initial fruity flavor starts things off with a massive sweet flavor and only a mild hop bitterness before even more mango flavor joins in with a slight carbonation before ending with a light floral flavor but tons more fruit juice and sweetness. Now follow me on this one: I like this beer as a beer. I do not like this beer as an IPA. Confused? Let me elaborate. Basically this beer tastes good and all and it’s super smooth due to it’s rake breaking amount of grains and oats but it just doesn’t taste like an IPA at all. If you were to tell me that this was a passion fruit blonde ale I probably would have believed you because I was really hoping for a hop bomb based on the color but that’s what happens when every brewery starts jumping on the hazy beer band wagon. With that being said, I still want to give these guys another chance and give them a visit and I think you should do the same so hurry up and go!

i've been listening to WPLJ since we moved - back - to the east coast in the 90s. to me, they're what a mix station is meant to be: not all current or past hits, but a nice mixture of both. there's also the fact that tuning in made me feel like the native new yorker part of me has always dreamt of being! i can't believe friday is the end of all the memories! obviously, i had to add this to my wardrobe!
