ep 1-3 of dorohedoro s2 review eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrmm yeah its okay. it felt soooooooooo fight scene heavy and unfortunately i do not think they look very good. there's bits and pieces where the animation is really good i:e shin's little blood spin but it is clearly held back by mainly using 3d models. I could be wrong but it seems as though they're not inclined to really stretch or warp the models in any crazy way and they can feel rather stiff.
caiman is also a huge sufferer from the 3d models. when they touch him up with extra hatching he looks okay but 7 times outta 10 he looks very, um, "hey guys is it obvious i put my oc into the show." While im inclined to play devils advocate and go "well, he is just a fucking lizard ofc hes gonna look out of place" everyone with weird ass masks doesnt seem to suffer that same issue.
final bit im copy pasting from my throwaway tweet but its missing a little pizzaz. a little artistic liberty. I love an anime that takes its source material and runs with it. d*n d*n d*n and the summer that hikaru died are fantastic examples of this. ddd sells you the silly nature of everything going on with over the top squash n stretch animation and crazy color and style changes. Meanwhile the sound design for hikaru is such a good translation from the manga having an emphasis on onomatopoeia, plus the artifacting on some of the spirits ooohh my god. so fucking cool. theres so much room to do weird crazy visuals with 3D animation and I with they'd capitalize on it more. i see it theyre so close to doing it like with caiman's remembering scene but aAAUAGHH. at least caiman has the best voice actor ever.
