what would a worm jrpg be like mr the sternest
as wormblr's resident jrpg expert i think a worm's power system is actually not very compatible for a list of rpg abilities
specifically because of how rigid every powerset is making it kinda difficult to come up with unique abilities so i think i will have to expand the limits of certain worm abilities (specifically brian and rachel)
I did actually come up with a bunch of abilities that the characters could have a while ago
the specific way I think a worm rpg should be designed is that there are a lot of damage and ability types
and if five specific abilities of specific ability types are arranged in a specific order it will do a kind of special attack (think of it like an expanded version of the jackpot system from in stars and time)
this is of course balanced by the abilities all being on cooldown rather than having an mp system and not having every ability type accesible to every character
The way i see the ability types they should be
physical Damage, Shard damage, tool damage , Buff abilities, Debuff abilities, utility abilities.
physical damage applies to attacks that do not involve powers or weapons.
Shard damage applies to attacks that involve powers.
Tool damage applies to attacks that involve tools and weapons, (a lot of tinker enemies do tool damage) , there are also a lot of items that damage your enemy's all of which do tool damage.
debuff's and buffs are obvious
Utility abilities are notable for being the only one's that do not add any combo's and therefore cannot interrupt any combo's
there are also hybrid abilities that allow the player to choose which ability to count the attack as before they use it.
Shard damage is any ability
if five of every ability type is played in a row it
every character's base attack also counts as a specific attack type
Taylor: Shard Damage (bug attack)
Brian: Physical Damage (Punch)
Lisa: Tool Damage (Gun)
Rachel: Physical Damage (Kick)
Alec: Tool Damage (Scepter whack)
Aisha: Tool Damage ( Knife)
It will have a party system similar to sea of stars, that means three party members with free character switching.
now onto the abilities.
Taylor.
Spider bite (Shard/Debuff ability) (Two turn cooldown)
Swarm: (shard/debuff ability) (Three turns)
Silk weave: (debuff ability) (Four turns)
Pain resistance: (Buff) Give a single ally a high defense buff for three turns (four turns)
swarm figure: (buff ability) (Three turn cooldown after the figure is destroyed)
Brian.
i imagine Brian also has a bunch of physical abilities but i didnt come up with them at the time so ill name a few
Dark shroud: (Debuff) (Five turns)
Training: (Buff) gives all allies an attack buff for 2 turns (four turns)
Flurry:(Phyiscal) attack a single enemy with 4 strikes that do 0.7 damage (two turns)
Blindside: (Physical/debuff)punch a single enemy with an attack that does 1.5 damage and has a high chance of stunning them for a turn
Mimic: (Utility) Mimic gives Brian a single ability belonging to a boss that has been beaten by the party, however every time the ability is used the ability Brian gets is randomized and all those abilities have their own cooldown's that might be quite long (mimic is unique as it has no cooldown and it can even be used once in a turn to shuffle the ability brian has, but using it a second time will use Brian's turn.)
Lisa.
Mock: (Debuff) give a single enemy a high attack debuff for two turns (three turns)
Pep talk: (buff) give a single ally a high attack buff for three turns (four turns)
Warn: (Buff) give all ally's a defense buff 2 turns (four turns)
take aim: (Buff) give all allies an accuracy buff for 2 turns (four turns)
Shift blame: (Utility) direct the aggro of all enemies onto a single ally (One turn)
Alec:
Electrifying charm: (Tool/debuff) Alec hit's an enemy with his stuff dealing 1.5 damage and a chance of applying the electrified effect (electrified effect causing the enemy to skip and take damage on their next turn) (Two turns)
Twitch: (Debuff) applies the confusion debuff on a single enemy giving them a chance to hit themselves or a teammate instead of the player. (Three turns)
Loose fingers: (Debuff) Apply an accuracy debuff to all enemies for 2 turns (four turns)
Neuron Understanding: (Utility/Passive): Every time alec hits an enemy there is a chance of raising a passive stat called Neuron Understanding, once Neuron understanding reaches a certain point Alec can use an ability called Hijack
Hijack: (Utility) When using puppet strings Alec can take control over the enemy that he has a high neuron understanding of controlling them for 2 turns.
Rachel:
Bite: (Shard) Send a bunch of dogs to do three to eight randomly assigned attacks that do 0.6 damage on the enemy team (three turns)
Counter: (Buff) give a single ally two counters, making them automatically attack back the next two times they are attacked (four turns)
Best friend: (utility) assign a dog to a party member, for the next two attacks that character makes that dog will add a second attack that mimics their damage type and adds a second damage unit to the ability counter (six turns)
I might add some more characters tommorow but this is all I have for now
