Okay so I had to add lore for this but I forgot. It is mostly world building and aspects about working at the facility in which the worm has been created. Enjoy :3
Earth+
The year in which the worm was developed is far into the future, the planet earth has finished the available space for erecting more structures, therefore the already existing buildings have been extended vertically as an adaptation to the lack of territory.
In most cities it is pretty normal to rarely see the sky if you live at the base of everything, there are artificial recreations of the sun and the blue sky, but the real one is often visited by those who are a little more wealthy during breaks.
Society has developed vertically, many new countries born in this era are now measured by vertical distance as they overlap each other.
The country at the top of the earth is where the richer classes live as they have the wealth to afford sunlight privilege. In fact during the decades there has been a total shift of energy sources, to the point that 90% of Earth's energy comes from solar energy. The downside being that the massive solar panels required to power up the planet take up almost all the space of the top country, the remaining part is taken by the few bazillionaires that own the biggest companies.
Babel's Triplets
"Babel's Triplets" is the name of the facility in which worm was created, called like that since it comprehends 3 buildings, each 400 floors tall. It is the highest complex on the planet so far and also one of the few buildings on the top layer of earth.
The main goal of their activity is to "unlock the true human potential" though innovation. Among the many inventions born by the genius minds working there we have:
- the whole teleporting system (that replaced cars and public transport altogether)
- the full transition to solar energy
- free healthcare to any citizen of earth with cures to almost any illness ever
- artificial food substitutes for those who only crave the taste of a product
- an informational database that transcends both physical and online spaces, existing through a fabric created by the heat released by human bodies.
Only people with specific attributes are allowed to operate in the highest floors of the facility. What are the requirements and the reasons is still an informational left unknown to the public. Only those who are deemed worthy are later informed by the higher ups that they have been promoted.
FocusblU
The normal employees at Babel's Triplets are equipped with a special "FocusblU" visor, containing a software that scans the surrounding at the speed of light and censors with a calming hue of blue what is deemed "unimportant" or "distracting" for the employee at work, this way they can focus on their task without any interruptions.
Everything seen by the operator wearing the visor is sent to a dark room in which special technicians turn the visual stimuli into information regarding the environment, the patients, the experiments and the worker itself.
The transition also happens in no time, some just think the technicians are super fast at their job, others believe that the dark room, being at the higher level of the third facility, is set into a different dimention in which time moves differently compared to the "main" one.
The operator on the field can access said information from the database and it appears automatically before their eyes as if it was embedded in the real world
The worm case
In the case of the employee that had to surveil the worm experiment, the visor had a malfunction that caused the censored area to reduce in a confined, smaller frame.
It is not explicitly specified but the blue censor also serves as a tranquilizer in case of heavy gore inside a room. The visor reports the uncensored environment to the technicians that act on the immediate to send someone to take care of the situation, while the employee on the field only sees the patient and some focus objects in the room
In the case of the worm supervisor, the frame around displays some visibility of the actual conditions of the room, with all the blood smeared on the ground.
You could consider this a brainstorm of the vague ideas that I have for this pseudo story, so sorry if it's a long read and doesn't make much sense 🥱
Thanks to schedude for reminding me abt this 👅
