 𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐀𝐃𝐌𝐈𝐓 ...  admit , what ?  that he saw shane as a father to him once .  “ ... you’re with them ? “      a one eyed gaze beams starkly in comparison to the gaping hole covered by gauze , where his other eye had once been .   he’s conflicted , and it knots inside him like all those knots shane had taught him at the quarry .   for though he hates to admit it now , seeing shane who was supposed to be dead with the saviors instead ,  the truth is part of him had mourned–    had cried–    and still cared about him .      maybe he always did .

               It  catches  her  off  guard.     A  phrase  spoken  so  softly  and  out  of  the  blue  that  for  a  moment  she  thinks  she’s  imagined  it,     that  her  fiercely  beating  heart  had  somehow  conjured  up  the  words  in  her  mind  and  forced  it  to  sound  like  his  voice.     But  his  gaze  is  locked  on  her  and  the  longer  the  silence  lingers  between  them,     the  hotter  her  face  seems  to  get.     

               The  blush  spreads  like  wildfire  across  her  cheeks  and  then  up  to  the  tips  of  her  ears  as  blue  hues  drop  their  focus  down  to  the  ground.     Her  ears  are  ringing  and  all  of  her  thoughts  are  clouded  by  the  drumming  of  her  heartbeat.     She  can’t  focus  long  enough  to  find  the  right  words,     mouth  gaped  open  as  she  rummages  through  her  mind  to  try  to  find  something  to  say.

but  it  was  because  of  this  man  that  she  felt  comfortable  enough  to  live  again  .  to  not  find  herself  so  bogged  down  with  the  worries  of  what  would  happen  .  an  unlikely  comfort  in  this  word  of  monsters  she’d  only  had  nightmares  of  .

❛   you’re  bleedin’  something  fierce  . . .  the  peaches  can  wait  .  this  can’t  . . .  ‘fore  you  know  it  you  got  most  of  your  oxygen  seepin’  through  your  forehead  .  so  shush  while  I  clean  this  .   ❜
