Reflection #8: We visited the Mapo resource recovery facility, which has been open to the public for over 19 years. This facility was built on an old landfill and has transformed into a green, energy-efficient place that is free from air pollution. It operates by burning trash and converting it into energy, heat, and bricks to sell.
Unfortunately, the public sector is no longer investing in the plant, which is disheartening given the benefits it offers to the community. It's wonderful that this facility is open to the public for exploration. I believe it will be fascinating to witness the future of landfills in the USA, especially because my father used to work in a landfill. I also observed that the workers at the facility wear masks, which is crucial for their protection, given the potential health hazards associated with breathing in toxic fumes. The transformation of the World Cup Park from a large piled dump site into a park in 2002 demonstrates the positive changes that can occur, building brighter and healthier futures.
