THE WORLDBUILDER’S COLLECTIVE is a project meant for fanmade content seeking to enhance Lyra's World from His Dark Materials and The Book of Dust.

Have you any original characters set in this universe that you wish to write about? Or perhaps you wish to expand on the lore of characters from the books? Either way, this is the path to writing content for Lyra's world, helping us boost the worldbuilding and offer more diverse and specific content for the fandom!

You can participate at any given time with:

fanfiction

prose (one-shot, drabble, multi chapter)

newspaper articles, book chapters, essays, journals, as if written by lyra’s world people

graphics

art (digital or otherwise)

gifsets, etc.

SOME GUIDELINES:

LYRA’S WORLD ONLY. The Worldbuilder's Collective seeks to improve Lyra's World and its worldbuilding (for now). This means that we have a focus on her world alone, despite the multiverse nature of HDM and TBOD.

OCs WELCOME! You can make content with original characters, fitting them in into the world, as long as you do not directly disrupt book events. (ie. Your character knows Asriel, but they cannot in any way prevent him from going North, etc.)

NO AUs ALLOWED. Any entry must be within canon, even if you are creating content for original characters. You can expand a character from the books but not remove things from their source material.

NO NEED FOR EXTREME RESEARCH. You don't have to religiously respect every aspect of canon. You don't have to meticuously research small details that frankly, very few people would even know about; you only have to respect the general idea of events and characters' arcs.

CANON DAEMON LORE. You cannot change daemon rules, even the conflicting ones, you can only expand on it with headcanons that explain them instead of disrupting them.

DON’T UNDO RELATIONSHIPS. You cannot change canon relationships, but you can add to it and associate other characters to a particular relationship or character, as long as it is reasonable.

NSFW ALLOWED. You can make NSFW content, just tag it and rate it accordingly.

ANY TIMELINE PERIOD ALLOWED. You can make content for things prior to HDM or TBOD events or during the events of the books. You can create events at any given period, as long as they do not clash directly with canon events. (ie. Marisa had a second baby during her time in TAS).

Professor Lucy Arnold and Doctor Nora Makepeace share a grudge and a great frustration with the men of their world; with men of various occupation and character, and for various reasons, though one stands out in particular: loneliness. When they meet, something blooms. A passionate need to find a purpose.

As much as I love Laura, she wasn't my first choice and for me lacks that little bit of badassery that I imagine Prof. Arnold having (as much as she was shooketh by the experience, it takes A LOT of guts to go identify a body AND hold a secret meeting for a bunch of heretics in the same week). But if Philman made anything clear about her in canon is that she's in her 40ties and blonde, a fact I'd like to maintain in both my writing and edits, so Laura it is.

In my heart, though, Prof. Lucy Arnold will always have the face of either Suranne Jones or Vicky McClure with That Haircut You Know The One (TM), who have the exact umph, yet range to play a complete disaster of a woman that I'm looking for.

If any of you have a different idea for a faceclaim with enough resources to create edits with, I'd love to hear it! (I've also been considering Rebecca Ferguson but let's be honest, no matter what she does, how loud she shrieks and cries and how much she shakes, for me she'll remain the epitome of calmness and grace)

Also I hate Sebastian to be another Old White Man but for the life of me I couldn't find a white-haired, older Black actor, preferably in a period drama (I mean, Morgan Freeman would be a bit too much on the nose, or? I actually headcanon him identically to the show!Master of Jordan) so that's another thing with which I'd be grateful if you'd hit me up!
