Interview with Martin Grey about his New Book
[The last interview with Martin can be found on this blog on 20/05/2018 or on www.martingreypoet.com on 30/07/2018. Please click on “Blog” and scroll down.]
Mal: It doesn’t seem like two years since our last interview. Please tell us a bit about your new book which comes out next month.
Martin: It’s a book about the connections we try to form with the world around us, the people who make their mark on us, hope and tragedy. I wanted to try and go very deep into the human experience and really look at how our relationships change as we change. I wanted to make a collection that was part optimistic, but also not shy away from the difficult moments we all have.
Mal: There’s certainly plenty of variety. I’m thinking particularly of The Rain Outside My Window comparing the weather with recollections of an old love affair.
Martin: I know I shouldn’t have favourite poems in my own book, but this is definitely one of them. There are a number of poems in the book that reference that relationship and in particular how destructive it became, but The Rain Outside My Window is very much a poem about overcoming the difficulties those relationships can cause.
Mal: How can our readers see a sample of the book online and obtain a copy?
Martin: You can see a sample of the book on my website (www.martingreypoet.com) and also on Amazon. In terms of getting a copy, it’s available as an e-book through the publisher (www.flyonthewallpoetry.co.uk) and through Amazon. As a printed copy, you can get one through the same sources or at your local bookshop. A printed copy costs £7.99 or currently about $10.50. An e-book costs £3.99 or currently about $5.25.
Mal: Do you have any other projects underway?
Martin: Yes, I’m co-director of a non-profit called World Jam which tries to bring different communities and languages together through a shared appreciation of poetry and music.
Mal: Well good luck with everything and we mustn’t leave it two years before the next interview.
Martin: That sounds great. Thanks for interviewing me (and remember to buy the book!).

Can someone confirm Yellowman "Abortion" samples the bass from Sly and Robbie's World Jam Riddim ("World a Music", "Welcome to Jamrock")
