There is a trope in media that when characters are pursued by something large or locked in its trajectory they will insist on running away from it in a straight line instead of taking the arguably more sensible approach of just dodging away to the side. I've seen that same criticism being applied to Megamind when he and Roxanne are on his hoverbike thing and trying to get away from the falling Metro Tower that Hal threw after them. I've always seen that criticism as kinda valid, but there's something I suddenly noticed about this scene in my most recent rewatch.
While Megamind is driving away the impact of the falling Metro Tower hitting the ground also hits the back of the hoverbike causing it to jump into the air a little bit. After that the hoverbike is sliding along on the ground in a somewhat uncontrolled manner rather than actively driving forward and when Roxanne asks him to go faster Megamind says that it's not reacting. We get a shot of the dashboard and Megamind trying to rev up the engine but it's not really doing anything. And I got the thought, what if it's not just not able to go faster but also not able to be properly steered anymore? The hoverbike doesn't have wheels and with the way it slides around on the ground something fundamental about the way it's able to operate and fly seems to have been broken by the impact. What if that's the reason Megamind doesn't try to steer to the side to escape the trajectory of the falling tower? Not because he doesn't think of it, but because his vehicle physically can't be steered anymore!
