1 What will be taught/learned 2 Timeline – how were things done in the past? 3 How were things done in the past when someone looked for a job? 4 Classified ads 5 Pick up the phone and call “hey, are you hiring?” 6 Walk in establishment – “do you have any job openings?” 1 What is the current situation? (online applications = zero people called me! Oh crap, why did I spend my entire weekend filling out apps that no one responded to?) 1 What are we proposing for the future? (12 weeks of contacting your top 20 companies! Stats. Points of Contact = called 100 companies 1 time = 1; called and emailed 100 companies 2 points of contact = 2; 3 points of contact = 5; 4 points of contact = 10; 5-12 points of contact = 80) 2 Geography – virtual world = endless opportunities! (Thinking and dreaming about working in the global market place!)

Part 3 – Audience Participation – Questions or Comments

1 Ask 2-3 specific people to chime in with their questions/comments – question for audience could be something like “what kinds of challenges have you had looking for a job?” “Where do you get stuck?” “What is the most frustrating part of trying to get an interview?”

2 Gather other input via question box – answer any questions that are important or noteworthy

1 Problem: What problem is your audience facing? What HR Won’t Tell You About Online Applications 2 Cause: What is the underlying cause of that problem? (Narrow your search to your top 20 companies; stand out from everyone else; multiple points of contact; tenacity; 12 week plan)

1 How many of you have filled out online applications to never hear back from anyone? 2 If you were given a choice, would you rather….A – Go to Tahiti and never work another day in your life, B – Get a job you love, C – Get married to Kanye or Kim and be a stay-at-home-parent?

Part 6 – Traffic Lights

1 RED – what should they STOP doing immediately? (Filling out applications and never following up!) 2 YELLOW – what should they CONTINUE doing? 9 Best Tips for Online Applications 3 Managing the Black Hole 4 GREEN – what should they START doing? (developing a plan, understanding your narrow and ideal search, keeping to your plan for 12 weeks, not giving up)
