A thing I am thinking about:
Class.
Like I see so much on here about writing diverse characters, but I never see anything about writing working class characters. If you know of a resource post about it and I've missed it, please do link me.
I'm thinking about it because I find it hard to understand a lot of the gender discourse online, and watching the people at the brewery with the glitter beer Saturday made me realize something.
When ya'll talk about performing being feminine you're talking about middle class women.
Actually this is a constant pattern I've observed online, and I think it was the source of at least some of my social problems in the Sims community. It's definitely the source of most of my confusion about things that people in online communities seem to take for granted. Middle class culture is just...different. And I didn't know the rules for it, and I unknowingly broke them. Never did figure out how to code switch.
I know Seth and Sarah come off pretty middle class, because the Sims game kind of forces that, but I think in Eggshells you can see that Seth grew up working class.
Gotta go do work stuff now, but I'll be thinking more about this.
