More Quirks of the Job
-Found over $1 in change while pounding the pavement at my new job. That’s about 1 cent for every 6 miles. Bonus!
-Pretending to smell candles in stores be because my dog needs practice and I picked up the habit long before I knew I was a congenital anosmic. I can still get a little something from the strongest mint candles but not as much as I once did.
-Analyzing the different vibrations of escalators, something that you apparently do when you ride ~12 a day
-Constantly trying to count chickens before they hatch. I’m down to three, the team is down to 14 from 22. Yikes!
-People’s comments: this time the weirdest was a lady passing by on the street who said “My next dog is going to have four legs”
Training a guide dog is like driving a sentient stick-shift car while simultaneously installing breaks and steering and then occasionally doing all of that blindfolded. Learning to train guide dogs is like doing all of that but with assembly instructions in a foreign language.
During white cane practice yesterday I was described as someone who walks confidently . . . into trees. Oh yeah, this bodes well for my week under blindfold. I also found out I walk straighter if I aim to walk in a 12:30 or 1:00 direction, wicked left tendency here I come!
