WordUp! - 2014 (singer)
WordUp! was a live music and spoken word event organised by Indigo Soul Project and held at Merdekarya in 2014. Musicians, singers and wordsmiths were invited to share their original work and the work of others that moved them, with a focus on words and lyrics. We were treated to an incredibly diverse range of music, rap and poetry, addressing topics like spirituality, feminism, modern society and more. The setting was intimate, cozy and friendly, and we had a great time.
I shared two songs, one of which was my all-time favourite song to cover -- “Hallelujah” by Jeff Buckley. (To be very honest, I can’t remember what the other song was.)
Unfortunately, I don’t have much in the way of pictures or footage to remember the night, but it remains one of the most interesting and diverse projects I’ve been part of. That night was a clear reminder of the insane amount of local talent we have, just waiting to be discovered.
