She did not know whether the abundant amount of water would actually be safe to drink and wasn't willing to risk it.

She dragged herself out of bed, every bone in her body screaming at her, yet she somehow made it outside of the room, leaning against a wall for several minutes before continuing on. Eventually finding a room full of very promising barrels after about half an hour of searching.

Everything hurt, her head spun, and her vision kept fading in and out. She needed that water and fast.

Lyra found the nearest upright barrel prying the top off, salt, exactly the opposite of what she needed now. Another, assorted nuts, another, honey. But no water. She went to the next room also full of barrels, taking the lid off one she finally finally found water. Carefully using her hands she scooped some up to drink before sealing the lid on tight.

Surely it'd be ok if she just rested here for a little bit... right?

So, yes, the rarity does play a lot into how they are perceived, but you are correct in that there are certain associations made with those with brown eyes similar to those personality trait lists for blood type, zodiac, etc. They would absolutely exist in LiT!twst.

To properly appreciate this, let me tell you the science I have made up as for why such fantastical eye color exist in the first place:

So, yes, it is because magic exists, but it's specifically because magic is a biological process in twst. Magic is within the body, and when used, creates blot as a byproduct, and you get it from there. Therefore, magic has to have it's own sort of "veins" (I liken them to the Meridians, if you're familiar with Chinese media) that travel along the body. And that magic results in come other biological changes to contend with it.

This, therefore, results in the different "effects" one might see when it comes to people using magic: sparks crackling from the body when someone gets emotional, or eyes lighting up when strong magic used.

As eyes are a central part in some magics (see: Jamil and the Leech twins), this means that eyes too have developed certain aspects as a result of magic. To contend with the backlight that happens when certain magics activate in the eyes, they've become more prismatic, resulting in more fantastical colors. Like what happens when you hold a clear crystal up to a beam of light and a rainbow appears on the other side.

Brown is not a color found naturally on a rainbow, and so, in twst biology, is the most biologically natural color. It is the least magically altered color, and has become recessive due to that, because it is less protected from magic. (Those with brown eyes in twst often develop eye troubles.)

Finally, the answer to your question, the association made with those with brown eyes: they are a person who is natural. Who is grounded in reality and is their truest self. Who doesn't put on airs or social masks. They are who they present they are.

Lyra was sleeping. No dreams tonight luckily for her but she still felt… something, something heavy that pressed down and caused her to wake.

Queen was awake that wasn’t surprising, she rarely slept if ever but it felt wrong this time.

How exactly would the non old trade speakers describe the language when they hear it? Like how people say that German sounds angry or French is pretty. I'm also wondering about the povs of other characters when Kal speaks english.

Ok so, in twst, when Kal speaks it, English sounds rhythmic, carrying a particular cadence, but not smooth.

English has many qualities that make it particularly disjointed or disconcerting listening to for non-native speakers. The amalgamation of sounds that aren't native to many languages, how English speakers tend to not enunciate where they should or heavy use of contractions, and heavy reoccurence of "s", "sh", and "ch" can make it sound hissy, slurred, or even harsh.

For Kal, a lot of it is just that the Midwestern accent's lack of true defining accent outside "American" plays to their favor. Jamil or Ace might liken it to a steady rap, but all together, it just sounds fascinating to the boys since this isn't a language that one can just go to another country to hear.

What is Skully's first language in LIT?

I have been staring at this ask for so long trying to figure this out.

I tried to look at his hometown for inspiration, but it's rendered Uzumimura, even in EN I think? Which got me nowhere

(This actually lead me down a rabbit hole trying to make some kind of non-JP version of the name, because Uzumi is a very weird word since there aren't a lot of Kanji that are read as Uzu and the town's name is entirely in hiragana)

Despite this, Skully's capacity to go to NRC at least implies he's a twst native and not from some unknown country like our unnamed twst China.

His name, at least according to the conventions of the rest of the cast and my own interpretations, would either put him in the Rose Kingdom itself, as Graves is an English surname and Skully, more commonly rendered as Scully, is Irish descent surname from a word for student, or in an area heavy with Rose Kingdom descendants, like an old colonized area. The Shrouds, for instance, I headcanon had a distant Rose Kingdom ancestor on their father's side, due to a Rose colony sprouting up a sime hundred years ago on the Olympic coast near the Lament Isles. Seeing as the Rose Kingdom is based on Great Britain, it wouldn't be a stretch to say they might have had a "Take over and colonize the world" phase at some point.
