Every year when the cold weather arrives I find myself browsing for vintage coats despite the many I already own, but this year I am stopping myself. I don’t need any more coats. Maybe another knit set though? Two years ago I was lucky enough to find three great sets within several months, but I am still on the hunt for that perfect green set. Knit sets are great - they’re stretchy (forgiving when you’re a foodie like me), and they can be dressed up easily.
Knit set - Vintage 1940s - Paper Unicorn Vintage
Hat - Vintage 1930s - Dreamtime Vintage
Jacket - Modern from last year - And Other Stories
Bag - Vintage 1940s - Xtabay Vintage
Earrings - Vintage bakelite - Etsy
Shoes - Modern from a few years ago - Remix Vintage Shoes
I wore this set on the blog when I first got it (see post here) and you might’ve noticed that I styled it very similarly - with the same hat and shoes, in fact. With the addition of the coat and a different bag, I think the two outfits actually look rather different. They also show how small, subtle changes are enough. We don’t have to wear new things all the time. And hey we are allowed to repeat outfits!! I have always wondered how big an average woman’s wardrobe was back in the days? Nowadays with social media and mobile phones, we often think oh we can’t possibly wear that dress again to another wedding! or I posted that outfit last week I can’t wear that again YET. I know I’m not the only one feeling that way, even my friends who aren’t bloggers/IG addicts have the same dilemmas.
The only downside about knit sets is how they are prone to moth bites and can be a bit itchy to wear. I’m the worst - I have overly sensitive skin and wools are tricky things for me to wear. I have tried washing them with special wool washing liquids and conditioners, but they’ve not done the job for me. I have come up with some tricks - I sometimes line the neckline of my wool tops with bias tapes or wear silk scarves underneath as protection, but when it’s winter and layering is an option I find myself reaching for boat-neck thin tops to wear underneath. So in some of these pictures, you might see the green top I wore peeking. As the weather has recently dipped down to literally freezing temperature, I think you might see this knit set again soon. And who knows, maybe I’ll finally style it with a different hat haha.
