How to make Cosplay Armor Litta Style-Step 1 Buy All the Things!
After my enjoyable experience at Midoricon 2012, I figured why not make a tutorial?
I had many people ask about my Astharoshe armor, so for those of you who haven't seen my photo album of Astharoshe behind the scenes on facebook...You get the step-by-step version! (Working on sharing it with Facebook too...silly linkage things...)
Note: I am not a master! I am still a novice cosplayer!
This being said-if I can do this, so can you!
Step 1: Gather your weapons!
1) Scissors and exacto knife (blades too)
3) Paper, tissue paper, posterboard, what have you for pattern making
4) Pen, marker, sharpie, pencil, whatever you want! Hot glue gun and glue sticks is a must!
5) Craft foam-both 2mm and 3mm foam from your local craft store.
6) Wonderflex-key, essential material!
7) Heatgun, embossing tool, or hairdryer you don't care about anymore
8) Modge podge, gesso, bondo, nail hole filler, etc-stuff that will make your wonderflex smooth!
9) Paint brushes!!!! Sponge ones work best in my opinion but you will need various ones anyways. You will also need tissues or some rags! And obviously water!
10) Sandpaper or sander block-you want something that will smooth in between layers!
11) Face mask and/or goggles-some of this stuff is dangerous!
12) Surface sealer-works great for craft foam! I use Design Master Super Surface Sealer from JoAnn Fabrics.
13) Spray paint-primer, color of your choice, and a clear coat finisher. Krylon is my weapon of choice. Shiny things if your armor has gems on it! Buttons or those glass stones you can buy for decorating flower vases and what not with, or if you have time and more money-resin cast your own gems!
14)Acrylic paints-for antiquing your armor. Shiny armor is not real armor! You will need at least black. I also needed some gold and silver for Astha's armor.
15) Cheap crinkle cotton stuff I found at JoAnn fabrics to create a fabric backing on your armor...I call it gauze fabric! Or whatever you can find that works for you!
16) Snaps, straps, buttons, INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH VELCRO. Buy belt trim! Usually you will see it in gold or silver at JoAnn's-stuff works great even though its not cheap!
And that should be all you need!
