It isnât the first (or worst) time theyâve been surrounded, but itâs definitely on their top ten list. Why they even have that list, Cloudâs not sure, but according to Zack the cliffs above Midgar ranked a solid 3, so he supposes this canât be so bad. Maybe a 5. No oneâs full of bullets yet at least.
Thereâs two Zoloms in front of them and a lot of horrible squelching noises from the mud pits further in the trees; at least three others, maybe more. They knew a nest was nearby, but this is just... fucking fantastic. The giant serpents are irritable from the climate changes forcing them north, seeking deep enough water as the Planet warms and dries; with the temperature increase telling them itâs spring already, theyâre also more violent in anticipation of breeding seasonÂ
If they werenât so close to a refugee settlement, Cloud would be fine with letting them take over the mucky remnants of the Northern Lake, but Zoloms are too territorial to coexist near human beings. So here they are, a delivery boy and a dead man, to wrangle the angry noodles away from the edge of swamp. Theyâll Sleepga what they can, and kill what they canât, and Cloud will clean the regret off his sword along with the blood. The world isnât kind.
âWhich oneâs the fight scene?â Cloud jokes back, keeping his shoulders at an angle to Zackâs, harder to flank as the two giant snakes hiss and shudder far above them. Oneâs coming in for a bite; he bounces the fangs off the flat of his sword and winces as a blob of venom flies past his head. The squelching noises are getting louder. âOn your left!â
