First off, there are few people that Zephia finds reason to show off how reliable she is. As the leader of her hound pack, no proof of her reliability should be needed beyond potential first impressions. Neither does she find meaning in displaying such when it comes to strangers, let alone current or past foes.

The only people - practically one person, honestly - she has ever felt the need to prove herself to are those stronger than her. Which segways decently into her preferred method of showing her reliability: dominance. Be it in raw power, verbal tongues, or whatever the situation may require.

One of the few details we know regarding Zephia’s background is her apparent greater magical capabilities in comparison to the other Mage Dragons. Alongside that is the detail that out of the great explosion that most likely changed her tribe’s village to a crater in an instant, she is the only one who survived. I have many other ideas regarding this incident right now, but the only point that matters is her survival. Her dominance over the rest of her weaker tribe. Dominance that led her to serve a stronger lord for the next few millennia.

I know I already got this ask already, but I thought it’d be special to split it up in two still! In the past one, I covered the main lessons Lachesis learned from living a commoner’s life. In this one, I would like to cover more of what she found in her noble life, moreso thanks to her lord brother Eldigan.

While she knew Eldigan for less time than her birth mother, Lachesis’ deepest bond lies within her half-brother. Where the rest of Nordion’s nobility refused to reach out for her hand, Eldigan was the first to dance with her on Lachesis’ official return to noble life. Even though the first few years of Lachesis’ castle life did not always have Eldigan involved, as he needed to complete his Behalla academy training before becoming king, she always looked forward to his return.

Being the only person (outside of the maids) that gave her time of day, Lachesis perhaps spent too much time yearning for Eldigan’s attention. However, a rather carless sibling love soon turned into a relationship built heavily on respect for one another. She was never able to become Eldigan’s closest confidant, said place being reserved for his wife, but she always found him close enough to be her second teacher, after her mother.

There’s the normal lessons she was taught: of swordplay, military tactics, and more expected of the house to protect Agustrian’s royalty. However, the most important lessons that Eldigan passed to Lachesis involved nobility and mannerisms. Specifically, for where her birth mother sparked a rebellious spirit into Lachesis, Eldigan melded that fire into a mature princess, even if he himself was unaware of it at the time.

virtuous: Virtuous, someone with superior virtues. That alone disqualifies Alcryst from the term, he thinks. "N-No," he replies, hesitating at the end. Wait, wouldn't that imply he has no morals or something? "Wait...!"

Alcryst is no saint and he knows it, which is why his answer is no. "Superior" is also an important part of how he defines virtuous; to him there is an implication that a virtuous person, who is noble and good and pure and never compromises on his morals, is a better person than a non-virtuous person who lies and cheats and harms others. As you can see it's very black and white so Alcryst trips himself up.

moral: "That's good and bad, right?" For some reason, Alcryst immediately thinks of his family. Mother, Father, and Diamant all did their best to show him what's good and what's bad, what's right and what's wrong, and how to act accordingly. "Yes, I'm moral." He's more certain of his answer this time.

looks-wise, he takes after dorothea in terms of hair color, but he has felix's bone structure, eye color, face shape, etc. somehow ends up on the taller side and shoots past both of his parents by the time he's ~18-19.

personality-wise, he's laid-back and good-humored, with charisma that shows when he chooses (key word: chooses — he's selective about who gets to see that side of him). a bit of a prankster in his younger years, though he outgrows that by the time he become a teenager, retaining just a touch of playfulness. inherits both his parents' strong work ethic + sense of discipline and knows better than to slack off.

he admires both his mom and dad, though he was more of a daddy's boy growing up. always wanted to tag along on hunts or missions with felix and would grow forlorn and grumpy if he couldn't go.

inherits his mom's love for jewelry, but that's about it — otherwise, he's got his father's practicality and preference for function over extravagance. dorothea outshines both of them at any function. sorry boys.

despite dorothea and felix's shared love for opera, he’s surprisingly not as into it as they are. he’s more than content to let that be their thing while he’s off doing his own. much prefers being outdoors and is a big-time horse enthusiast. he’s a fantastic rider and loves to go for his daily rides whenever he can. boy probably smells like it too.

no comment on whether it's nice or not. he only continues, half-sharply, in the same way as usual:

an astute observation on his part.

today’s scent is a subtle blend of vanilla, enriched with deep balsam wood and warming cinnamon notes. and her hair, though still in loose curls, has the side sections pinned up and twisted gracefully behind her head.

if his senses are truly keen, he might even notice the pleased flush spreading across dorothea’s cheeks, paired with an inquisitive expression that studies him intently. she's never expected him to comment on any changes—after all, when has he ever? yet today is different, and because felix has taken notice, she makes a mental note: spiced vanilla and partial up-dos are worth trying again.

she turns away from him with a coy smile, hand hovering over a sword on the rack. “oh, it’s nothing you need to worry about,” she says, her tone light and casual. “i went on a date earlier, is all. i thought changing would take time away from the sparring session. it wouldn’t be fair to keep you waiting, now would it?" a lie—easier than admitting she simply wanted to see if he’d care. to be so direct, given all that’s transpired, would likely scare felix off like a startled deer, and so she deems this the better alternative. let him come to her. perhaps the hunter in him would appreciate the sentiment someday.

in any case, dorothea lifts the sword from its place ; it feels reassuringly balanced in her hand, its weight promising both precision and power. she gives it a few experimental swings, assessing its suitability for the day’s training.
