he is a bastard, there is no denying that.  he is cruel, vindictive and prejudiced, he’s done terrible things, yes.  hell, he is the worst fear of one of his third-year students.  he exposes a colleague and gets him fired over an adolescent quarrel.  he’s definitely not the kind of guy i’d like to be teaching my children, no matter how good he is at what he does.

it’s very easy to overlook his qualities as well as it is to believe his love for lily is his only chance of redemption.  let’s not forget his loyalty and dedication  ----  he dedicates not a few months, not a year or two of his life, but all the seventeen years he has left in an attempt to set his record straight and finally do the right thing.  let’s not forget his bravery :  severus is absolutely terrified of voldemort, and yet he agrees to play double agent for dumbledore.  let’s not forget how despite disliking harry, he stands up to dumbledore when he learns about the headmaster’s plans of keeping the boy alive just so he may die at the right moment. 

really, snape is a terrible person, but he is, after all, a human being with flaws and qualities.  i think just looking at one of his sides or the other is missing out greatly on the amazing character he is.

                             ‘ oh, i know a great deal, lupin. ’      the smile that lingers on thin lips is dripping with poison.   is he playing with fire ?   most likely, but it feels good having an early taste of revenge.  it is coming soon, he can feel it   —-  it’s just a matter of weaving a proper plan & getting his hands on some hard evidence.    ‘ more than you can possibly imagine. ’ 

1.  how do they move and carry themselves ?  pace, rhythm, gestures, energy ?

usually, severus moves as if he’s got all the time in the world on his hands.  he is very much like a cold blooded animal  —-  he is calm & precise, devoid of any sort of superfluity.  that said, he manages to keep a steady pace.  of course,  not one ounce of his tranquility seems natural & it isn’t.  rather than an inborn trait, it was manufactured through some discipline.  as a teenager, he would walk with his shoulders hunched forward & in general was hardly noticed by his classmates due to his introversion, but as he became more comfortable with himself  ( & that, unfortunately, started to happen around the time snape joined the death eaters ), he turned into a more imposing figure of lengthy strides & sure actions.

4.  what is their size and build ?  how does it influence how they use their body, if it does ? 

snape has always been on the small side.  even if he grew up to an average height, he remains as scrawny as when he was younger  ( & that was another source of self - consciousness :  he was shorter than james & sirius )  since it’s very difficult for him to gain weight.  despite that, severus’s presence is still a commanding one due to his authoritarian manners.  students often believe he is a much larger man until they get to take a second look.

41.  what associations do they bring to mind ?  words or phrases, images, metaphors or motifs ?  

i.  water dripping into a nearly full glass until it finally overflows.ii.  fumes & the sound of boiling liquid.iii.  old books of fragile bindings & yellowish pages.iv.  black silk.v.   morning dew.vi.  green light.

pale knuckles rap against the wooden door of lupin’s office  ( after all those years of service to hogwarts & having proven his abilities more than once, it should be his )  before he enters the room, cloak following his feet like waves in the night sea.

                                   ‘ break the bottle, spill its content & you’ll have to endure another week until a new dosage. ’   snape states with ice in his voice as he places the container on his colleague’s desk.
