Well, he certainly hadn’t been expecting this.

Blinking for a moment, he’d glance down at the picked flowers presented to him. This... wasn’t like Geralt. Even so, the gesture was very nice. It’d been forever since anyone had put the effort into picking flowers for him. Gods, probably not he was still a student. Blue eyes trailed down to the flowers being held out to him.

“What? No!” No, no, not at all. Jaskier was quick to sniffle, clear his throat, and attempt to wipe the tears from his eyes. Look, he knew it was far from convincing, but at the very least he could get Geralt an out to this conversation if he wanted it. He doubted anyone wanted to deal with him while he was like this right now.

“They are. And it’s probably helped along by the magic practically pouring out of them.” A small, smug grin settled onto her expression. “Are you really that opposed to my help? You know I’m perfectly capable Geralt, and this will go a lot faster for the both of us if we work together.” It was a risk, going in with him. He might try and have her explain her motives, which she didn’t usually like him to know. She didn’t like anyone to know, but she actually listened to him at times, so it was a bigger risk to reveal them to him.

Yennefer smirked, looking up at him, though her eyes flickered to where she suspected he’d been left with bruises from the ruined house in Rinde. “Well, at least I can be comforted that you had something to remember me by since you left so quickly.” Her eyebrow lifted as she took a step back. “I didn’t know a witcher would be so preoccupied with injuries. Maybe stick around and I can heal any you end up with this time.”

Her arms crossed tightly over her chest, swallowing hard to push down the dangerous cocktail of emotions threatening to rise up within it. “Spare me the lecture, Geralt,” she spat out -- words harsh and staccato. “You know how you also don’t get what you want?” she wheeled around on her heel, feeling controlled enough to turn and face him, violet eyes glowering at him. “Not bothering to try. I’m not going to lay down and accept my fate without trying.”

        Heart hammers against aching ribs as Katyae glances up at the witcher with a wide, hesitant look. The beginning of a disagreement tingles across the tip of her tongue, but the words remained locked behind clenched teeth. She feels frozen in more ways than one. She doesn’t have much experience with witchers except for the occasional misdirection she offered to those travelling through. If Katyae told him why her being AFRAID was NEVER a good thing -- that when she used her fear to her advantage, it could shake the very earth itself -- would he see her as just some new type of MONSTER to cut down? 

        She swallows thickly at the thought, casting her eyes away from Geralt and sighing. NO, her mind supplies in response to her own thoughts. Katyae doesn’t really get the feeling that he would pass judgement on her so quickly or harshly, even if she did tell him everything. She WASN’T going to, not really, but the conviction behind that feeling slowly began to soothe some of the FEAR chilling her bones. After a moment of picking at a loose thread in her sleeve, the young woman quietly replied:
