Those of you who know me know how much I love my dogs. Yesterday was difficult as my oldest, Reese, was diagnosed with Wobbler Syndrome. It is a degenerative neurological disease that affects the strength in her legs, among other things, and will cause her to lose her ability to walk one day. This disease is very common in Dobermans and Great Danes as 1 in 20 Dobermans can expect to develop Wobblers.
I have had a rough stretch recently with my dogs, starting with the unexpected loss of my puppy, Penny. This is not a death sentence for my Reese, but I now have an idea of how much sand is left in her hour glass and it’s less than anyone would want as studies say an average life expectancy from diagnosis is about 3-4 years; it could be less if she doesn’t respond to her Prednisone.
I post this asking my moots and anybody else who happens to read this - if anyone has had any experience with Dobermans and Wobblers, I would appreciate any and all feedback that would help give her the best life moving forward. She is my first Doberman and I am more used to German Shepherds. I have never had a dog who suffered from a degenerative condition and I am trying to stay ahead of the curve for her. Any information or advice is much appreciated 🙏🏼
Hug your dog for me tonight 🐾
