Don Barlone's offer (originally: Don Barlone ajánlata)
2025
Acrylic on paper
I made this for Rattober, for the prompt 11. bootlegger rat.
This is Don Barlone from Wizardry 8, and it was really hard to paint him. The game's visuals are not the most realistic, so sometimes I didn't know what part of his appearance was due to the lowness of polygon count and texture detail (such as him having much more side-facing eyes in the game; I think that is simply the way he could be made without adding more polygons), and therefore I had to do a lot of figuring out, since I wanted him to look believable. I don't know what's going on with his shirt cuffs not having a matching collar, I don't know what he is actually intended to be wearing; but I left those as they are anyway, because they contributed too much to his look, and clothes can work in a variety of ways after all. Maybe they are part of a clothing article that doesn't have a collar. Who knows.
But anyway, this is my attempt at him, a dashing rat mobster with a concerning persistent cough who stole the Super Important Artifact carrying the force of life itself from the Big Bad and is now selling it to us (because the Big Bad skipped town without paying him, and so he gets his payment his own way). I noticed that there is no appreciation for him to be found anywhere; but don't worry, Don Barlone, I like you.
