As Irene waits for her drink, the senior staff starts finding other things to do. "You can take care of her this time" one whispers to me. I don't really know what I'm getting myself into except I'm told to put on gloves. I guard my hands in latex and proceed to make a 12oz chocolate caramel latte with no foam. As I am preparing the drink, I can feel her watching my every move. As I begin steaming milk she reminds me to make sure "not to get any of that sloshy sound" while I'm doing it. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is playing on the speakers and I begin to whistle along. "Are you whistling in my drink?" Irene asks. Before I can answer she calmly asks me to remake the drink. She heard me "slosh" anyway, she says. As I scoop film off the top of her 12oz chocolate caramel latte with no foam, she decides she would like whipped cream. She instructs me to pour out a quarter of the drink and fill it with whipped cream.
