Actually, this is one of the things I like the least about Netflix witcher (apart from it in general being one of those ‘this kinda sucks in so many ways I love it’ fandoms for me, no shade), but Jaskier would’ve been SUCH a good character to have some actual acoustic filk, but instead they gave us just more bard-core-ish pop music. And the songs are fun, but idk. I just feel like it’s kind of lazy to not put in even a little effort to write fun folk songs and it’s kind of insulting to think no audience would go for that. Like, yes, ‘but this is how people would feel about those songs’, but consider: I (the audience) am not fucking stupid and in fact very capable of parsing that kind of thing.

Like say what you want about GRRM and GoT but at least their filks are structured appropriately and sound legit and are grounded in the socio-politics of the world! Sound and instrumentals wise, I’m rather unhappy with anything after S4, but that’s GoT for you (Jenny of Old Stones is uh. A thing that happened. and I’m not too happy with Hands of Gold but alas). Specifically, there’s a conflict arising out of GRRM writing legit filk texts and the studio hiring pop-artists to sing them and trying to make them more marketable, but the intent is still there. Netflix Witcher didn’t even TRY.

I feel like I need to keep repeating this, but I really did genuinely enjoy the Witcher show.

But the more I think about it, the less I like TV!Geralt.

Geralt in the books and the games was very gruff and dour, but underneath he had a well of kindness and compassion. Esp wrt to kids, women, and every kind of lesser mistreated person -- human or non-human.

I didn’t really... get that vibe from show Geralt. He was just sort of a jerk, lol.

I read an article about this interview trying to pity the "poor" creators being "forced" to dumb down this show and tbh I don't think any "creator" of this show gets any kind of pass when time and time again they admit they hated the source material or didn't even touch it. And Cavill's reward for giving a fuck about canon was getting smeared as a toxic gamer bro lmao.

The only thing that kind of surprises me about this is Tomasz Baginski being the one to say all of this because he made the cinematics for the witcher games like was he also thinking about dumbing those down bc the games were gonna be sold internationally 🤡

i really take a lot of comfort (lie) in knowing that twn did such a great (lie) job of portraying Geralt’s and Yennefer’s reunion scene post wild hunt attack.
