Iāve been experimenting with weather magic this year. I decided this year that I wanted to give us a rainy winter - not flooding, but regular rain reaching twice annual rainfall instead of the predicted third La Nina year of dryness.Ā
I mostly worked with @strangesigilsāās rain signs, because Iāve had really good luck with them in the past for more immediateĀ āhey the conditions are right please rain instead of passing us byā work. I just cast them regularly throughout the dry season to see what would happen. No schedule, just as I remembered.Ā
The rainfall year starts in October, so I started tracking rain there using our rain station to make sure it was precise through the whole rain year and to avoid the double-counting the station tends to do. In essence, if the rain gauge is at 0.5 inches at midnight, it tends to count it as 0.5 the day before and 0.5 the day after. Results below as of today.Ā
There was a huge and unexpected uptick in January despite predicted dryness. Basically, we gotĀ āatmospheric riversā nearly every week for three months. As of today, the rainfall totals are within rounding error of my goal of twice annual rainfall. There havenāt been floods in my area, and everything is finally GREEN again. Though my partner is irritated by having to weed-whack, Iād call this a success.Ā
Correlation doesnāt imply causation, but itās certainly a nice way to feel like I had control over an uncontrollable situation that brings me a lot of anxiety. Also, my garden is growing strong and I havenāt watered it in months. Bonus!
