“I believe you have something of mine?”

Simon rocks on the balls of his feet “And I know what and who you are."

“And who might that be?”

“It wasn’t hard to work out when I saw you following August around like a lost dog, and the creepy, never seen the sun before vibes.” As he speaks he pulls the chunky ring out. “I know a vampire when I see one, especially one from the clan that makes my family's life hell”.

Rosh gleefully empties her pockets.

Coins, a necklace, a fountain pen, two sherbet lemons, a lighter and a bag of something suspicious looking that Simon is going to choose to ignore, something that may or may not have been a human tooth.

A large, family heirloom type sovereign ring.

“Great haul tonight!” She looks pleased with herself. Simon has to admit she is great at sleight of hand magic - or pickpocketing if your being pedantic, but she is even better at just being a nuisance.

Here is my drabble for day 1 of the Young Royals drabble challenge! Thank you to @youngroyals-events for organising!

I have had Witch!Simon living in my head rent free for over a year now so am using this challenge to dabble in this world a bit as it is unlikely to ever be fully written.

Simon’s head whips round at the sound of footsteps in the snow. Sara is being escorted by that asshole.

“Whats going on?” He pulls her behind their stall, with its overflowing potion bottles haphazardly displayed, whilst sending a surge of magic to warm her.

August struts away and Simons eyes snap to his companion. Simon runs through his mental directory of enemies and draws a blank at this tall, sort of cute creature.

For context - the Eriksson's run a thriving apothecary where they sell an abundance of magical wares.

Simon was not keen on the ‘magical balloon’ idea, but they are popular.

He startles as he spots someone lurking in the corner, the stranger from the market, and the empty balloon in his hand.

“Do we have another happy customer?” He giggles.

Their eyes lock and the smile slides off Simons face at the intense look he is pinned with.

“What is this?”

“A test product, but people are calling it horny helium”.

“I didn’t buy it, I found it”

“And you just. . .inhaled it?”

Watching his feet he descends the slippery steps into their lush overgrown garden. Well more of a magical plant stockroom.

Sara is deep in concentration as she digs. They don’t speak but he knows she knows he’s there. He folds onto a stool huddling up against the chill, content to be ignored and watch her work.

“Theres someone here to see you. . .” she murmurs.

He is momentarily confused, does she mean a dead someone? Sara is a gifted clairvoyant, but the confusion clears as he spots the lanky but corporal figure that nonetheless does seem to be haunting him lately.
