Mutya WiSiK 2016 DL Umali, UPLB | 09.24.2016
This was a free-form dance performance by Mutya, a professor from UP Manila who found her love for dance since she started at age 5. I got to interview her (I’m going to release the video soon) and was amazed at how she found her life’s calling, which is to devote herself to the arts--or more specifically, her dance.
WiSiK 2016 (Wika, Sining at K--the K changes every year, and this year, it stood for Klima) was such an amazing avenue for independent artists in UPLB, especially with the knowledge that the country does emphasize the importance of the Sciences more than it should, which leaves too little room for art to flourish. However, because Filipinos are resourceful, events like WiSiK enable artists to showcase what they’ve got and at the same time encourage people who love their craft to engage in it, live it, and show the society that it deserves to be appreciated.
