Taylor is frowning. It’s not because Trie is a boring place—far from it. It’s because Ivan won’t cooperate with any of his tour plans. “Well, when Alice comes back, can we at least—”
“We’ll be going home,” Ivan states firmly. He’s flipping through the pages of a newspaper he picked up earlier, leaning with one wing against a wall. “You can run along and do whatever you like, but I’m not going anywhere.”
“You’re meant to be,” Taylor sulks. “I was there, she said to be friendly. And it’s no fun just doing things on my own. You’d do anything to leave me behind.”
“You know that’s not true.” Ivan shifts his gaze toward him, but not for long. “If I don’t run into anyone I have to ‘be friendly’ to, I don’t have to ‘be friendly’ to any Djinn at—” He stops short. Something’s caught his attention, and it’s made his whole body tense up. “Okay, Taylor, if you want to get out of this area and do something else, all I ask is that you be quiet for a few minutes."
"You know I don’t do quiet,” Taylor scoffs, scanning the area for whatever’s causing the star such distress. Aha! A familiar face. If that’s what Ivan is afraid of, then he’ll bring the party over. “Hey!! Long time no see! How’s it going?” Taylor calls out, waggling his arm in greeting as if the recipient were a close friend.
Horrified by Taylor’s course of action, Ivan presses the newspaper closer to his face with the hope of going unseen.

Queenie’s faux-boldness miraculously managed to work on the floral alien, as she’d been too flattered to find her words for a moment.
“… What nerve, leaving their posts like that.” Alarune pouted, lightly shaking her head before glancing at the envelope. “Well, I’ll be sure to read it as soon as possible, given you went out of your way to come to my side to deliver this.” She nods, before briefly studying Queenie’s face.
“You wouldn’t… happen, to have any free time on your hands, would you Queenie? There’s a handful of nice spots on this island I’m sure you’d never seen before. While I’d like to show you them, I’d understand if you’re too busy with paperwork today.” Alarune idly fits her gloves. “That and… always that risk of running into someone, I’d understand.” The alien suppresses a sheepish chuckle.
“Yes, terribly negligent,” Queenie mutters, her eyes darting around shiftily. “Anyway, the letter, of course.” She hands over the envelope with a secured sense of courage, but seconds later she’s thrown back into a fluster by Alarune’s offer.
“Well, I mean, my letter is—more or less is … that is to say—it’s mostly focused around …” Taking a deep breath, Queenie manages to ground herself again. She makes a hand motion urging Alarune to read the letter before continuing, “It was my intention to spend today with you from the very first, as you will read. … But it wouldn’t have surprised me if you already had a myriad of admirers waiting at your doorstep.”
The letter itself is as the heiress had described. It’s a simple request for Alarune to spend the day with her, should she have the time, written carefully enough to avoid the words ‘Valentine’s Day’ but not ‘it would mean a lot’.
Queenie folds her arms, looking away, but can’t seem to help the occasional glance back to check how her crush is taking it. “I didn’t have anywhere in mind, so if you’d like to show me someplace, that’s fine.”

The mayor couldn’t help but suppress a chuckle at Queenie’s surprise, nodding. “Of course- Oh, are you sure?” She tilts her head. “I wouldn’t want you to starve yourself over your own party, and all. Not even a cut of meat?”
Gil gave a shameless grin back on Queenie’s sour look, stepping ahead and helping clear a path to a table when Queenie took up on Marianne’s offer.
“I’m sure Lady Drachen has been on top of her health–” Alarune quietly piped in, helping put the topic behind them while they got seated. While she initially tried to coyly sit across from Queenie, Mari was quick on the initiative, taking the seat opposite Queenie and leaving Alarune with the one comfortably between her and the host.
Marianne resisted a pout at Gil not sitting next to her, though it seemed the mushroom alien wouldn’t budge from standing beside her a little further back to prevent upsetting Queenie while Alarune was there. “So- how has the party been coming along? No petty noble drama yet, right?” She teases, adjusting her veil. “It’s almost a shame I have to ask so much, the most I’ve heard of you prior to this get-together was from Alarune, so I hope you don’t mind indulging my curiosity.” Marianne hums coyly, quietly reading Alarune and Queenie’s expressions over any chatter.
“No, thank you,” Queenie asserts, more than relieved when the subject is dropped. She sits carefully, patting down her dress so that it’ll stay tidy, and mutters something about having sore feet. Gil distancing themself puts her at greater ease.
“Drama? Not with this crowd. A guest did pass out earlier, but that was taken care of swiftly,” Queenie sighs, taking the question a little more literally. She perks up again as soon as it’s implied that Alarune would think to talk about her at all. “Not in the slightest—” She glances over. “I do hope you’ve only had nice things to say about me, hm, Runey?”
Tittering brightly, she turns back to Marianne and adds, “…likewise, however, I’ve only heard about you indirectly. I understand you’ve taken over mayoral work in your area?”
