SRAMs Secret Wireless Electronic Shifting System UPDATED
SRAM went through an astounding level of cloak and daggery to hide the fact that they were not only developing a fly by wire shifting system, but that it is wireless. Given that Shimano and Campy have had fly by wire for 6 years all told (only the former worth having, however) and given that the real gem here is the wireless aspect, you'd think they would just let themselves be frequently photographed demoing the mock wired version, more than just the ToC. Having NOTHING to market all this time looked far worse than just giving away their ace to their competitors early. Quite a gambit. However, I'd also be surprised in Shimano wasn't already developing a wireless one on their own anyway. The promise of a wireless fly by wire system is very intriguing. Presumably it runs on ANT+ and bluetooth, so simultaneously also sending performance data back to a cyclometer or phone linked to the system. So you'd get the ease and efficiency of electronic shifting, with the minimalism of a wireless setup, AND telemetrics to boot.
