Adventure called and I answered. The Wisconsin Dells are a beautiful and special place. The French called them the Dalles, describing the layers of rock they saw, rock so soft that trees can drive their roots deep within and draw moisture like a sponge. Wisconsin got its name from the Native American Hochunk tribe. In their language it means something like the land of dark running waters. Tannic acid from the vegetation turns the water a sort of deep brown and its non-toxic. In fact life flourishes here. We saw a majestic bald eagle flying to its nest with a three foot long branch high in a tree that crested the ridge line. A red squirrel scouted our arrival as we embarked on a hike under giant 60 ft tall toad stool formations.
