❛ 𝐢 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐲𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟, 𝐛𝐮𝐜𝐤. ❜  he pulls himself up from the ground, with a slight stumble. hand immediately flying out to catch the wall, and provide himself support, until he was able to stand back up on his own two feet. a fresh bruise is now growing across his cheek, and his nose is bloody and running. he sniffs, then brings up his other hand, using the back of it to wipe away at the blood.  ❛ you should’ve seen the other guy. a few more seconds, and i would’ve had him on the ground. ❜

if  natasha  said  that  she  knew  how  to  feel  in  this  moment,  she  would  be  lying.  nothing  had  prepared  herself  for  this,  for  what  it  would  feel  like  to  be  in  front  of  him  again  as  someone  that  she  could  connect  with    --------     not  a  man  on  a  mission,  blindly  following  orders.  if  she  closed  her  eyes,  it  was  almost  like  she  could  be  transported  back  to  a  time  long  ago.  a  time  when  they  were  younger,  a  time  when  things  were  different.  two  people,  so  similar,  and  yet  so  different  at  the  same  time.                 it  almost  felt  like  she  was  looking  at  a  stranger.         “ on  my  side,  huh? ”  gaze  moved  to  meet  his,  a  hand  on  her  hip.  “ were  we  ever  on  the  same  side? ”  even  back  then,  with  endless  hours  of  training       (      you  were  always  the  best  of  them,  natalia.  they  were  weak.      )     and  moments  stolen  from  protocol,  just  for  them,  there  was  always  the  expectation  that  each  moment  could  be  the  last. 

“ it’s... ”  a  breath.  “ it’s  good  to  see  you  again      --------       weird      --------      but  good. ”  there  was  a  hint  of  a  smile  to  tug  at  the  corner  of  her  lips  as  she  looked  at  him.  a  part  of  her  felt  like  she  was  seeing  him,  truly  just  him,  for  the  first  time  and  it  was  a  feeling  that  she  wasn’t  quite  sure  how  to  place.  “         ---------         so,  you’re  sticking  around  now,  then? ”  the  question  left  her  lips  after  a  brief  moment  of  silence,  clearing  her  throat  awkwardly.  silence  was  her  friend  during  moments  like  this,  unwilling  to  ruin  even  just  the  smallest  moment  of  peace  that  they  were  given.  after  a  brief  moment,  she  continued.  “ you  look  the  same. ”  a  beat.  “ don’t  know  if  that’s  a  good  or  a  bad  thing. ”  there  was  a  hint  of  a  laugh  at  that,  though  it  lacked  enthusiasm.  laughter,  jokes,  keeping  things  playful...    it  was  never  quite  one  of  her  most  polished  skills.  “ kidding.  but,       i  mean  it.  it’s...   it  really  is  good  to  see  you. ”
