The Tünel is a short underground railway line in Istanbul, Turkey. It is an underground funicular with two stations, connecting the quarters of Karaköy and Beyoğlu. Located at the northern shore of the Golden Horn, the underground railway tunnel goes uphill from close to sea level and is about 573 metres (1,880 feet) long.[1] Inaugurated on January 17, 1875,[1] the Tünel is the second-oldest extant subterranean urbanrail line in the world, after the London Underground (1863) and an 1862 funicular line in Lyon that has been converted into an underground. It is thus the oldest surviving underground urban rail line in continental Europe.💯 // 📍Istanbul // Turkey travel diaries post 7 🇹🇷 // shoutout to @b2two for this dope preset👊🏻 // #istanbul #Turkey #sirkeci #igersistanbul #instaistanbul #taksimsquare #instagrammersturkey #instagrammersistanbul #night #Streetsofistanbul #nightphotography #adventure #travel #traveldiary #travelife #Türkiye #Istanbulcity #illoveistanbul #cold #igersturkey #winterturkey #taksim #tramway #tram #tramvay #tünel #yasinda (at Tünel Beyoğlu)
