I didn't write about it, but I have a headcanon that Ansel (my Rook) is not just a random elf Varric met, but the son of Mahariel. And knowing Alistair and Lyna, he might have known Ansel. But Ansel doesn't use the last name of famous parents so as not to draw attention to his person. He uses the surname of the keeper who taught him magic from the Dalish clan. They lived in this clan when Ansel was little.
