i have an exam later for which i am not ready and so im making this post to be an outlet of sorts (so i can finally focus). And these are very PERSONAL thoughts. PERSONAL. PERSONAL. PERSONAL. so alot of people might very well disagree but here goes.Â
I've been thinking alot about how most Winner (TeamA) stans are "protective" of winner and how we're so easily affected by any mention of Team B as regards any comparison made above and beyond the actual competition (which is well and truly over) and i think that it stems primarily from an insecurity. Not on the talents of our boys (because they possess it in leaps and bounds) but because or Sajangnim (YG that is) does not seem to adore them so.Â
Alot has been mentioned about how harsh YG is to BIGBANG and to 2NE1. And we get that, well I do. He has to be harsh and he has to be blunt because the netizens can say so much worse but with BIGBANG and 2NE1, you knew he very much adored them that behind all the criticisms and harshness, he was confident that they would do well.Â
Somehow, Winner stans feel, especially those who started with them as Team A, that WINNER doesn't have that kind of security with YG. He nitpicked their performances like crazy. He had that surprised look when it was announced that it was their team that won. He made that comment about how Team B did extremely well and as an after thought added that Team A did well too.
And you just knew he adored Team B. Some say he just adored B.I. and Bobby but he adored them just the same. And you can just see he the sparkle in his eyes. You can see it when he talks about people he adores. He adored Lee Hayi and everytime he talks about her, he gets all dreamy right (sort of)? That's kinda also his look when he talks about Team B.Â
Personally, I never saw him give that kind of look with Team A. Like he isn't as confident. Winner stans have an emotional bond with these boys and when the Sajangnim (who honestly have every control over their future) doesn't seem so confident with our boys, we hurt too. Because we believe in them and we know they'll do well and have so much potential but their boss doesn't seem to hold them in half the same light and so we fear for our boys' future. That's why, I think, we Winner stans are sensitive about these things.Â
Also, on a recent interview with YOUPAPER, a Japanese magazine, he mentioned how Team B is like "Little Big Bang" (and i kind of actually agree) and how they're more YG style and how they'll be explosive in a year's time highlights his confidence in the group who did not win.Â
Now hardcore Team B fans might say we have it easier, that WINNER is about to debut and that we have regular updates and stuff. And I agree. But YG has this thing where he's not so very good with multi-tasking and when Team B finally debuts, I really am afraid WINNER will lose support.Â
I used to firmly believe that since WINNER can produce their own stuff, they can survive on their own but EPIK HIGH does their own thing and yet they're in the cave somewhere in the YG Bldg and I'm not sure if they chose it to be that way themselves or YG placed them there but the fact is that they are there. Which is why WINNER has alot of obstacles to face in the future not only in kpop as an industry but also inside YG's very own walls.Â
And I endured that comment he made about CL being "ugly" without any make-up because I knew that despite that very harsh and blunt comment, he loved their group. He loved them.Â
I'm not so sure about his affections for Team A, now WINNER. He said once that he adores both groups but I'm not too sure. The fact that this batch of trainees do not essentially have a very personal relationship with him, unlike his very personal connection with both BIGBANG and 2NE1, also underscored how big an impact where his "ADORATION" lies.Â
I have to be honest and say that before the whole subs of ep6 came out and news about him mentioning Hanbin out poured on twitter, I was VERY hurt for the boys. And i found the comment unnecessary and I was driven with an irrational urge to SCORN YG. But after the subs and seeing the context, I knew he was just pointing out the need to work even harder. However, i still think he should refrain from making anymore comments like that.Â
Let him be harsh let him nitpick them let him pressure them but don't compare them to the group you adore more. Just don't. Keep your biases to yourself, YG. LOL.Â
