Wine Caps are stilll fruiting!! With our more chillier and extended Spring into Summer we’ve had some extended harvests of our #strophariarugosoannulata This will keep fruiting if it stays raining and cooler but otherwise it will take a break during the hot summer days and wait for the cool weather of late Summer into Fall. We get asked, “will anything eat these in my yard?” and we always say... “Slugs and Bugs!” Every time Wine Caps fruit in my yard, I fall in love with them again. First of all, look at those gills!! Purple!! Second, they vary so much dependent on weather. Like the second photo we have a severely sun bleached one, practically white, while ones less that a foot away in a more shaded spot have that true, burgundy cap color. That’s why it’s so hard to properly identify mushrooms. It takes time to really learn how these mushrooms and fungi morph due to their environment and what kind of weather we are having. But I’ll say this once and again, WINE CAP IS THE EASIEST MUSHROOM TO GROW!
