There was wood along the shoreline for a fire, but she had to be careful to keep it small, and hope any attention it gained was neither that of pirates or wild animals. She supposed the latter might be frightened off, but it wasn’t a risk she was willing to test.

Berries and fish had kept her alive, but she had been silent for days, growing ever thinner, ever more thin with her gown hanging around her shoulders and wedding veil torn to strips in the trees. The fury of those first days had been intense, but now she simply felt                                                  e m p t y.

Death would come for her, but she would meet the god fighting, if nothing else. Her eyes would not close in defeat, nor in peace.
