Look at the position of the blades of the windmills
The two on the left (and one more outside the picture to the left) are in the ‘vreugdestand’ “joy position”.
On this Dutch windmill the blades turn counterclockwise (looking at the blades) So looking at the top blade, it is coming to the top. Indicating things as a wedding or a birth. happy things.
If the top blade is just passed the top, it’s the ‘gaandestand’ it is for mourning.
The windmill on the far right is in the shortrest/ standby position.
There is also a fourth postion, with the blades in an X position, this is the longrest / not standby. It was used back when the beames where made of wood and it was used to prevent sagging.

A fifth sort of position, with lines connecting the ends of the blades together with small flags along them, can be seen as a party position.
note: Eventhough the Netherlands is a small country, there are regional differences, and this is the one system I know from the area I grew up in. Other regions my have different positions or meaning to the positions.

I desperately want a set of working windmill models that have working and accurate gearing (and potentially interchangeable blade systems) so that I can play with them and watch them spin and enjoy the engineering of them
Ideally they even have miniaturized loads like so they're actually mini poldermolens or korenmolens or zaagmolens. I especially want a mini Paltrokmolen cause those things are awesome
