THE GAME DON'T CHANGE; just the players is a timely documentary on the generational effects of street gang warfare, its players who've stood at life's crossroads and were forced to make life altering decisions, and the vision of Duke Givens, a Long Beach native who captured peace efforts between two of Long Beach's most notorious rival gangs through photojournalism which was made into a keepsake calendar. Almost 20 years later, many of those who appeared in the peace calendar have since lost their life's, making what is now a keepsake, a memorial of lives lost.
The documentary by (Duke Given Films) explores the lives of four individuals who've ultimately made choices that impacted their futures.
Hunter, one of the featured in the power packed documentary, recalls the time that he and others were standing on the street in front of a friend's house when a hooded figure appears out of the darkness.
"He pulled out a big 'ol '45, with an extended clip," Hunter testifies. "And he shoot, "BOOM".
The sound was riveting and numbing as it ripped through the flesh of his friend, who subsequently died after being shot in the face, and multiple times in the back as he lay bleeding on the ground.
Check out THE GAME DON'T CHANGE; just the players this August 2nd and August 4th, and the Wilmore9 FILM / MUSIC / ART Festival August 3rd and 4th. DON'T DELAY.
