Volunteer Opportunities at the Baltimore Humane Society
Based in Redwood City, California, William E. Schuiling is the owner of Brown Automotive Group, Ltd., the largest privately-owned automotive company in the Mid-Atlantic region. An active philanthropist, William Schuiling supports numerous charitable causes that benefit animals including the Homeless Animals Rescue Team (HART) and the Baltimore Humane Society (BHS). Founded in 1928, BHS is a nonprofit and private organization that cares for unwanted and homeless animals in Baltimore, Maryland. This organization provides a range of opportunities for volunteers to support the work of the shelter and to socialize with the animals receiving care. Volunteers who choose to work with dogs, cats, and other small animals participate in the Open Paw Program, a training program designed to enhance the animals’ quality of life while also preparing them for adoption. Before volunteers can work with animals, a volunteer application and training program are required to be completed. Other volunteer opportunities with the BHS include working on the grounds, assisting in the office, and representing the organization at fairs, festivals, schools, and adoption events. Volunteers are also needed for the Enrichment Squad, a team of people that make toys to entertain and enrich the lives of the animals.
