When a man knows he is to be hanged in a fortnight, it concentrates his mind wonderfully.

For the soul who seriously wants to hear God, how does one catch even the slightest whisper from him? For the soul who wants to see God, how does one perceive him even through the tiniest openings in the heavenly wall?

To be made for eternity and forced to dwell in time is for mankind a tragedy of huge proportions. All within us cries for life and permanence, and everything around us reminds us of mortality and change. Yet that God has made us of the stuff of eternity is both a glory and a prophecy, a glory yet to be realized and a prophecy yet to be fulfilled.

It is a dangerous thing to reject light.

It is a dangerous thing to reject light. Physically, without light we could not see and would have no food to ear, air to breathe, nor heat to keep sufficiently warm. Intellectually, without light we would have no knowledge, no awareness of truth, and no ability to perceive God.

Love and truth, then, are the most basic and most essential descriptions of God.

Self-deception is a universal disease; overcoming it is a life-long battle.
