The MWA podcast usually has an interview with their guests, followed by a second part where they ask the 5 Questions. I’ve answered the 5 Questions before, as well as their less-often used second set of 5 Questions. Instead of re-running the 5 Questions, they decided to let me talk about 5 Things You Should Know instead. 

(almost) Finished Cross-Cut Sled

As you may recall, I recently posted the initial build of my cross-cut sled based on William Ng's 5-cut method.

In the old post, I had finished the initial build, but hadn't calibrated the fence yet.  By following William's 5-cut method to calculate the error ratio of the fence, I started with an error of 0.0314 inches per linear foot and was able to get the error down to 0.0010 inch / foot after the first adjustment! I was very happy with that result.

The title of this post is the "almost" finished sled because I still need to add a blade guard in the front and a dust/blade guard across the top of the sled.

After the initial build of the sled, I needed to find a place to store it on the wall.  Unfortunately, my walls are fairly full and/or inaccessible.  As you can see from the second picture, I was able to hang it on the wall above the garage door.  I need to get up on a ladder to bring it down, but hey, it has a home...

And for those curious ones, that's my dust filtering system on the workbench.  Yes, it's a box fan with a 20x20 air filter bungied to it.  Low tech, I know, but it cuts the dust settling in the garage for about $30.

Last week, St. John's law students came together to engage with and learn from alumni at a panel program on Life After Law School: The Paths Ahead of You. Hosted by the Law School’s Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA) in collaboration with the Career Development Office, the event offered insight into a range of practice areas and work environments.
