Single Ladies || Lucy & Will (ft. baby Bishops)
"Do you think Drew just doesn't want to propose to me?" Lucy asks one day, out of the blue. Will almost drops the jar of baby food in his hand. "What?" he asks, turning away from Mason in his high chair to look at Lucy. He's got the kids today, something Lucy didn't know before she failed to make plans. Zoey's out with Katie to get a haircut or new clothes or something, so she obviously won't be getting any advice from that Well of Wisdom today. Will, however, is the next best thing. He isn't her sister, but he's been married to Zoey for quite some time. Hopefully something's rubbed off. Osmosis, right? She's taken too long to answer his question-mainly because she thought it was rhetorical- so Will asks it again. "What?" he says. "Do you think Drew doesn't want to marry me?" Will blinks at her before turning around to feed his kid again. Mason requires a great deal of coaxing and bribing when it comes to eating and most other actions. The blonde baby is very insistent on the attention being on him all the time, especially now that, at nearly two, he's been informed of the arrival of a baby sister. "Unca Drew," he says, speaking through a mouthful of mashed potatoes. Clearly he's decided he's been out of the conversation long enough, and now he's fixing that. "He's not your uncle yet, kid," Lucy says, slapping her hand down on the counter. "Let's hope he never is," Will whispers to his son. Mason blinks. "What is your problem with Drew?" Lucy demands. "You have been like this for the past five years." "Mainly because I didn't think you'd last five years with a guy like that. Look, I've seen you grow up, okay? I've helped raise you. I know you, Luce, and how amazing you are. He doesn't deserve you. No one does." An attorney by trade, clearly Will has a way with words. It's not just that, though. There's an earnestness in his eyes that she makes her heart leap, and suddenly she just wants to hug him. The guy's done a lot for her over the years, and she recognizes that. "I guess I just wasn't thinking about you and Addie ever actually settling down." "But she did," Lucy reminds him. "And so will I." "I thought the universe would let me off easy with you considering it's bad enough I have to deal with Tommy for the rest of my life." "He's a good guy." "Not nearly good enough." "That's a better rating than Drew gets," she points out. "In my defense, Drew did ignore you for two whole summers in college. How's that bode for a marriage?" "I guess we'll never find out," Lucy sighs, resting her elbows on the kitchen counter. "Because like I said, I don't think Drew actually wants to marry me." "Uncle Drew proposed?" Emery asks excitedly, padding into the kitchen. It's noon, but she's still in pajamas and fluffy slippers. Lucy throws Will a Look. He shrugs. "No, sweetie, and he's not going to." "You're lying," her niece replies. "He showed me the ring it's so pretty." Her face falls suddenly, the pretty grin on her lips sliding off."Oops." Emery claps her hands over her mouth, blinks a few times, and bursts into giggles. "I wasn't supposed to tell."
