i cannot understand the true crime community. on one hand, the cases are all very interesting, including looking through the perpetrators past to see who they were--and what made them become violent. on the other hand, seeing people.. "woobify" these perpetrators is almost sickening. it's also very, very stupid.
yes, all violent killers were once innocent children. some violent killers were neglected, abused, molded into a mentally unwell teenager/adult. this does not, however, make them innocent after taking the lives of others. i feel like i shouldn't have to say this, but apparently i do.
i suppose this is the same drivel all true crime fans have to hear at some point or another, so maybe none of them will even see or listen to this. they've heard it all before, etc etc.
but i want you to take this from somebody with a more understanding view. obviously, that means me, as i'm the only one writing this.
i used to be one of you. i used to fangirl about school shooters as if they wouldn't have killed me on sight. i wondered, and i cried, "what if they had been different? they only needed help!" like that meant anything.
i know very well that these perpetrators could have had a chance if it weren't for societies incompetence when it comes to handling mental illness and hostility that can stem from it. but they... well, you know what they did. but could you just take it a bit more seriously?
instead of crying about the younger versions of murderers lost to time, could you cry about the people that were lost due to their actions? they were children once too--hell, some of the victims of certain criminals still were children. roll that into some paper and smoke it. you're all a bunch of fucking idiots, the lot of you.
