Day Nineteen - Wanaka
Today I accidentally made us leave an hour earlier than we needed to for our excursion. Whoops! It worked out though because we found a nice little bakery that made delicious pies! Also sweeter baked goods and I got a yummy boysenberry custard danish. Today we did Wildwire's Via Ferrata's climb along the Twin Falls towards Treble Cone's peak. It was awesome. Via Ferrata was a climbing method created in during World War One as a method of transporting troops and gear in a cheap and efficient way over mountainous region. Essentially it's a metal ladder installed in the side of a mountain. The climb was very cool, and often we were right next to the falls. At some points, the guide had us hook our shorty into one of the rungs or in a wire on a suspension bridge and lean back and let go. It's pretty wild. It wasn't as tiring as I would have thought, but had a nice element of challenge to it. Once we got to the top, the view of course was amazing. Highly recommend if you're in the Wanaka area. After that we took it easy before going out for some Thai. Tried to walk down to the lone Wanaka tree but it was further than thought. Likely going to try and find it tomorrow, after canyoning! I am so excited to try canyoning, thought a little nervous about the temperature of the water. Overall pretty fantastic day with the love of my life. Kia Ora ~
