here i am recording a home protection spell straight from my grimoire.
a lot of the spells, oils, and rituals i have been creating and using are very personal to my own craft and therefore can't be shared, but this one is a general protection spell i created on a warm summer's night, listening to the crickets and the occasional train horn. the spell came to me, a simple, easy to create spell that uses things around the home so you don't need to buy anything else.
the only supplies you might not have is twine (but you can use yarn, or more durable string, or even lace if you have it) and a candle, but anything to seal will do.
feel free to substitute as needed, but this spell is based on your home's energy and the things you can find around it!
the spell, protecting the home:
needed materials:
a rock from around your home, your garden, your driveway, or down by the creek on your property. the stone should be from your home though, and it doesn't need to be a fancy crystal. any regular rock will do. you want this rock to have the energy of your home and yard!
a sprig from a bush, a small branch from a tree, or a dried flower from your garden. you can even use a weed, like a dried dandelion if you're in a pinch. again, this piece of nature needs to be from your home.
twine or string (can be yarn, twine, durable sewing string, lace, or even a hairtie if you don't have anything else).
a black candle (or white, if you don't have black. or, even, if you have a regular candle you burn to spruce up the energy and scent of the house, you can use that. intention matters most here).
explanation:
the rock is grounding, it protects, it wards away unwanted visitors and energies. it's vital to this spell. through the earth element, it is a foundation to the spell, and a foundation to the energy you want into your home.
the sprig, twig, or flower represents the home and the positive, good energy growing and ushering in life. with every open of the door, the good energy flows in and surrounds the threshold and the home.
the twine ties the two together, and really, the spell as well. it combines the protection aspect and the life-bringing, positive energy. it holds the good energy to the spells and banishes the negativity energy as the rock is held into place.
the candle wax seals the spell at the point where the twine is tied (if using a hair tie, find the point where the rock and sprig meet to drip the wax onto the tie). the color black is associated with protection, reinforces the energy, and banishes negative energy. it helps strengthen the bond between all three other pieces of the spell.
methods:
cleanse yourself and the doorway of your home as needed, but don't cleanse the rock or sprig! the natural energy of these are fundamental to the spell.
speak the intentions into each component as you go. for the rock, i would say something like, "this rock represents a piece of my home. protect it, love it, and keep what is unwanted away. i thank you."
place the sprig, twig, or flower onto the rock. use the twine to tie the two together (intention is important, so continue to speak it as you complete each part). light the candle, and allow the hot wax to drip onto where the twine is tied (be careful of fire safety and to not burn yourself).
speak a final intention over the spell: i would say something similar to "let each component do as intended, let my home be protected. let only wanted energy and visitors enter the home. let this spell protect me from those with ill intentions. let no unwanted spirits enter my home. let only good, wanted energy be ushered in. thank you."
place or hang at the main doorway of the home. as the door opens, good energy is ushered in, and bad energy is blocked and/or ushered out.
disperse whatever energy is leftover from the spell that lingers on you and your working space, if wanted. this is personal to you, however you end a spell regularly, do such.
final notes:
i hope this was helpful, and a simple way to protect your home. let me know if you try this!
again, this spell is personal to me and my practice, but felt general enough to be shared. i also thought it would helpful to those who don't have access to a lot of materials.
there aren't many caveats to this spell, in fact, it's very fluid. if you're hiding your paganism, you can hide it by your bedroom door, or kind of hide it in a plant pot by your door if you desire. if you live in an apartment complex, you can find a rock from anywhere around the property. if you live on a big property, then there's plenty of opportunity to find material!
if you'd rather use all nature based materials, consider creating a braid from long grass to tie everything together. perhaps all natural beeswax would make a good sealant.
